Multi-Week RV Trips

These are trips that need more than a week to “get there” or are part of a touring itinerary.

Four Corners of Georgia

A great format to explore any state. We chose a state park in each corner of Georgia and then planned the route between them. Along the way, we visited many small towns and saw lovely countryside. We included a link for more information. Enjoy the adventure!

Stop 1: Seminole State Park, Donalson Georgia
situated along Lake Seminole, a 35,000-acre reservoir

Stop 2: Crooked River State Park, St. Marys Georgia
Situated along the Intracoastal Waterway

Stop 3: Mistletoe State Park, Appling Georgia
Located on one side of Clarks Hill Lake, a 71,000-acre lake near Augusta
This was a 'half-way' stop so that we could keep drive time under 4 hours

Stop 4: Black Rock Mountain State Park, Mountain City, Georgia
in the Blue Ridge Mountains

Stop 5: Cloudland Canyon State Park, Rising Fawn, Georgia
on the western edge of Lookout Mountain

Key West and West Florida

We wanted to go to Key West, so planned a trip with stops along the west coast of Florida. During the winter months, you really need reservations at campgrounds - so many 'snowbirds' and too few campsites!

Stop 1: Crystal River Florida
We stayed at Rock Crusher Canyon RV Park, the only campground with a vacancy! Like several stops on this trip, it was more of a full-time RV residence park, but fine for a one-night stop.

Stop 2: Sanibel Island, Florida
Periwinkle Trailer Park has full-time park model homes as well as many snowbird RVs. It was a nice park and right on the island.

Stop 3: Stock Island, Key West
Boyd's  Key West Campground Park is famous for its ocean views. It is also very crowded! They accommodate both RV and tent campers.

Stop 4: Naples, Florida
Rock Creek RV Resort is a very nice park, though really meant for seasonal campers. They were kind enough to give us their 'overflow' spot which turned out to be a great spot with full hook-ups next to the check-in office.

Stop 5: Turtle Beach Campground, Sarasota Florida
We got the last spot available at this county park. It was just a two-minute walk to the beach.

Stop 6: Eagles Roost RV Resort, Lake Park Georgia
We stopped here on the way home since it was along I-75. Our expectations were low, but the park was terrific - clean, well maintained, and right next to an outlet mall! The sites are spacious and fairly level while the facilities were well maintained.

Eastern Seaboard

This was our first long trip.  We were on the road for five weeks and followed the east coast from Georgia to Maine. and then returned by way of the interior.

Stop 1: Hunting Island State Park, St. Helena Island South Carolina
Right on the beach but hurricanes frequently damage the campground. When we visited, there was an abundance of mosquitos!

Stop 2: Surf City, North Carolina

We stopped for the night at Lanier's Campground - more of a trailer park, but just fine for an overnight.

Stop 3: Kitty Hawk, North Carolina
We stayed with friends in Kitty Hawk, but Kitty Hawk RV Park is right on the beach just down the street from the beach house. Good option!

Stop 4: Baltimore, Maryland
Again, we stayed with friends in Linthicum Heights just outside Baltimore. A good campground option is Bar Harbor RV Resort in Abingdon where you can choose a waterfront site on the Chesapeake or the Capitol KOA in Millersville. Both are within 30 minutes of Baltimore.

Stop 5: Cape May, New Jersey
We stayed at Seashore Campground and RV Resort. It is a Sun RV Resort and very well managed. Nice sites, well-maintained facilities, lots of amenities, and an easy drive into downtown.

Stop 6: Atlantic Highlands, New Jersey
This is our childhood home, so we stayed with friends. There are not a lot of options in this part of New Jersey. We tried two different county campgrounds but could not get a response. It might be better to try south towards Jackson.

Stop 7: Mystic, Connecticut

Another Sun RV Resort! We stayed at Seaport RV Resort in Mystic. Very nice, open field layout with nice amenities. On our second trip, we stayed at the Mystic KOA. It is a very nice campground.

Stop 8: Provincetown Massachusettes on Cape Cod
At the border of the National Seashore is Dune's Edge Campground operated by the Trustees, a conservation group. It is small and rustic, nestled in the dunes among the wind-twisted trees. Great location! Plan on riding your bikes to get into town.

Stop 9: Scarborough, Maine
A real treat was Wild Duck Campground. Quiet and well located. Nice facilities and well run.

Stop 10: Searsport, Maine
Searsport Shores Ocean Campground. This was a whimsical campground with lots of amenities, though not in the best shape, the ocean views can't be beaten. About a one-hour drive to Acadia National Park.

Stop 11: Danville, Vermont
Lovely views all around Sugar Ridge RV Park & Campground. An 18 hole mini-golf course was a nice touch!

Stop 12: Central Bridge, New York
Just a one-night stop, Hide-A-Way Campground was a nice little field-style campground. We had to change sites to find a level one... built on a gradual, sloping field.

Stop 13: Finger Lakes Region, New York
Stopping for a winery tour sounded like a nice idea. We found Sned-Acres Family Campground in Ovid. A big, grassy field with sites that were not at all level. Management was very nice.

Stop 14: Hershey, Pennsylvania
We made a day-stop in Hershey but continued driving to Barnesville, making camp at Locust Lake State Park. Nice, wooded campground off the beaten path.

Stop 15: Mebane, North Carolina
Jones Station RV Park and Campground was a delightful find. Lovely setting and very well maintained.

Stop 16: Falls Lake Recreation Area, Wake Forest North Carolina
Holly Point Campground was a great spot. We enjoyed the lake, but the large sites on the forest side were better than the ones on the lake.

Stop 17: Tugaloo State Park, Hartwell Georgia
This park on Lake Hartwell offered waterfront sites and excellent kayaking.
